Database definitions

Field:

A single section of data in a database table relating to a single piece of information.

Record:

A collection of informstion about one specific entry in a database. Each record is made up of fields.

Mail Merge:

When a word processing document has data files attached to it from a database, it allows multiple copies to be printed, with individualised information on each one.

Relational Database:

Relational databases use a number of tabls connected together with relationsships running between each other. This allows information to be linked between the tables.

Flat File:

A sinle table of information for the whole database.

Primary Key:

An unique field which contains an identifier for a row in a table, allows for easy searching and organising for information.
